haircute

Hee hee! I just can't seem to take off that extra "e" at the end of haircut!

Both boys got haircuts yesterday, in preparation for their Auntie's wedding this weekend. Caleb sat so, so well for his haircut. And he's looking pretty cute!

happy Easter ;)

Sometimes mommies forget to take pictures on Easter. I think that just means that they were having a really good time with their little boys.

But, don't worry. They can always dress you up on Easter Monday and take some pictures then.

what we've been reading lately

We just finished this one tonight. Pass the kleenex, please.

Don't read this one if you're hungry.

Matthew can read this one all by himself! Yay Mattie!

One of Caleb's favourites. I found this website where you can listen to Robert Munsch read it. If your mom/dad/grandma get tired of reading it to you.

And a lively pirate story to read with daddy and then dress up in pirate hats and tea towels on heads and use empty paper towel tubes for telescopes. If you like that sort of stuff.

why I love teaching in a Catholic school...

ten on tuesday

1. Last Friday, I went for a massage after work. Ahhhhh. It felt so nice.

2. On Saturday, I spent almost the whole day shopping with my mom. Also very nice.

3. I know that two year olds are supposed to say 'no' alot, but Caleb has recently started saying 'yes' a whole lot and it really couldn't be any cuter.

4. A few weeks ago, I bought Matthew Easy Reader Phonics Kits 1 & 2 at really great price. Well, now he wants Easy Reader Phonics Kit 3 and the store doesn't have anymore. Yikes.

5. I bought a cookbook for my mom and now she's letting me borrow it. :) Thanks mom. Maybe I should have bought it for myself.

6. We miss baby Maya. :(

7. Matthew's big April Fools Day trick : Tell his grandma that he ate chicken. He's so fussy, he doesn't even like chicken. Weird and unhealthy, I know. We're working on it.

8. Less than two weeks until Rick's sister gets married. I bought my dress. (not on ebay, that's just the only place I could find a photo of the dress)

9. I scrapbooked again!

10. Have a happy happy Tuesday!

just because the sun was shining and the sky was blue

Just because the sun was shining and the sky was blue, we decided to go for a walk.

We soon discovered that just because the sun is shining and the sky is blue, it doesn't mean it's nice outside.

And that would explain the winter jackets and tuques :)

But the shining sun made playing with our shadows very fun. Here I am!

Happy sun shiny day! (but don't forget your mittens)

what's new

Well, I've been gone from my blog for awhile but here's what's new:

- I finished my report cards. I guess I didn't really have a choice, but it feels good to be done.

- I did a 15 minute beautification challenge and covered these two bulletin boards with some fabric. And while I was at it I cleaned off my scrapbooking table.

- And lots of nice visits with Baby Maya and Auntie Faye.
- Some scrapbooking too.
- Melting snow and spring weather. Hooray!

cards!

Guess what? I finished my cards for the card swap. Wanna see them?

Well, you're going to have to wait. But here are some of the supplies I used...

Also, I may not be around too much for the next little while. It's called report card season.

Or I may be around more than usual. It's called procrastination :)

latest craze around here

Are you ready to hear about the latest craze around here?
Painting.

And when I say "around here", I mean in our house, not in Saskatchewan. People have been painting in Saskatchewan for years.

So this is what I've found to be successful when painting with a 2 year old and a 3 1/2 year old.

  • That shiny fingerpainting paper is nice to use, too.

  • If your child does not want to wear his new Buzz Lightyear art smock, you may also give him the option of painting shirtless.

  • Use baby wipes to clean up messes along the way and to wipe hands before heading to the sink for a more thorough washdown.

Any other tips?

guess who's on my deck?

When I look out my window, this is who I see...Yesterday, the snow was perfect for a snowman. The boys went outside with Rick and built this super-cool snowman on our deck. What a unique spot for a snowman.

And this morning, I took the boys outside to play a bit. It's so nice to have some warmer weather and some healthy boys.
And to be perfectly honest and "real"... This is really what Caleb thinks of being outside most of the time.

he's two!

Well, Caleb is two years old now. And he is just such a cutie! I'm glad he's feeling better.

Here are a few quick photos from his birthday. We cancelled the kid's party, but had all the grandparents over for supper. He was feeling a bit better, although he was still quite clingy (sorry for spilling chili on your head, little buddy). And he really had a great day (except for the chili on his head).

Mismatched pj's while opening presents. Scooby doo and Bob the Builder. That's what happens when you're sick on your birthday :)

Two little monkeys. We bought him a whole bunch of puppets and they were a hit!

Cake anyone? Mmmm, it was very good. (this photo's for you, Susie)

Matthew thought it was delicious too.

More presents. This one was a Lightning McQueen car from Uncle Mark and it was also a big hit!

cancelled

The birthday party has been cancelled.

The birthday boy has an ear infection and a throat infection.

He cried for twenty-five minutes in the doctor's office before the doctor said "I'll see you next", even though it wasn't our turn.

I thought he was almost better, but he's not.

Poor guy.

Hmmm, what should I do with the two birthday cakes I ordered from the new bakery?

flashback friday

I think I'm in a flashback-ish, sentimental mood. :)

But please give me a break, my baby turns two years old tomorrow. Can you believe it? But don't think for a minute I'm going to quit calling him my baby.

Every year, when one of my babies celebrates a birthday, I can't help but remember the actual day he was born. So, here's a little video of the day Caleb was born. I think it's so special to have this video documenting the moment that these two boys met. It really warms my heart.

I really wish I had video of more special days in my life, like the first time I danced with my husband (before he was my boyfriend or husband, and he was just this guy I knew-I wish I could remember that song). But I'm so glad we have this video :)

Happy 2nd Birthday, baby Caleb!

flashback

We've been going through a bit of withdrawal around here.

Matthew gave up his soother last weekend.

It's been hard, at times. But, I think the worst is over.

Today, he received his incentive package :) and he is quite proud of himself. It was time to give it up (he's three and a half), but it was quite a habit to break.

Here's a little trip down memory (soother) lane...

Matthew at six months, just hanging in his crib
Almost one, cruising the furniture with his soother...
Two years old, sharing tips with his brother

Two and a half, waking up
Almost three years old, having some quiet timeWe will miss you, dear soother. We will never forget how you helped us through the night, kept things quiet during Church or all the peace and quiet you offered us over the years. But, we've moved on (well, Caleb hasn't but there's still time for him)

ten on tuesday

1. We've all been sick for way too long. No need to feel sorry for us, I've got that part taken care of :)

2. Caleb's talking is really taking off. My favourite words of his
snack (nack)
Matt
Cale (Cay-el)
chocolate (chawquat)
please (peeeeze)

3. Probably not a coincidence, but Caleb's totally into reading books lately. His favourites:

4. Matthew is learning about nursery rhymes at school this week. Today at lunch he recited:

There was a little girl,
Who had a little curl,
Right in the middle of her forehead,
And when she was good,
She was very, very good,
But when she was bad....

I don't remember the word, mom.

5. His fingernails were also all black. Something to do with a craft involving blackbirds (sing a song of sixpence..., I'm guessing)

6. Did I mention that we are starting to go a bit crazy from being stuck in the house for such a long time (due to weather and sickies)?

7. Hug or headlock? What do you think?
8. We did actually venture out of the house for awhile yesterday afternoon. It was, after all, the very first family day. We went to the museum.

9. Fun in the dinosaur sandpit at the museum. And pretending to sleep on a bison fur.

10. Back to work for me today (I missed all last week) My class missed me and it was good to be back :)

hello, friend

Wishing you a very Happy Valentine's Day.
(these were my cards for the card swap-I'm still waiting for mine to arrive...)

february showers

No rain showers here in February, but we did have a baby shower on the weekend for baby Maya. It was so much fun for this mommy of boys to go crazy with the pink theme.

The guests of honour:

The decor:

Thank you so much for coming to visit us, Faye and Maya. We had a great time (sorry you got sick). We love you :)

love at first sight

Actually, "love at first sight" may be inaccurate because I know we loved her before we saw her. But once we saw her, we fell in love all over again :)

Matthew thinks we should move to another country, like Calgary, so he can be Maya's big brother. He loves to hold her, read to her, help change her diaper, look at her. He just loves being around her. He can't get enough of her. It's so sweet. Caleb likes to share all his toys with Maya. Seriously, e v e r y single toy at the same time. He treats her so gently and strokes her hair. It's so nice to see his softer side. But he will definitely remind you that he is his mommy's "baybeee".

queen of hearts

So, next week I get to be the helper in Matthew's preschool class again. His teacher mentioned to me that she will be reading The Queen of Hearts to the class. She thought it might be fun if I brought some tarts for snack (the helper brings snack for everyone). Doesn't that sound like fun? I think his teacher is so awesome!

When we were driving home from school, Matthew said,

"Mom, there's just one problem. I don't really like tarts."

I told him that he could try a tart and he might like it. And besides, I will bring some other snacks too.

"Mom, there's just one more problem..."

Yes?

"You don't know how to make tarts."

Ha! I laughed so hard! He's right. Hee hee.

Wish me luck!

PS Do you think the queen of hearts sleeps on a king size bed?
